What does a volleyball lifter do?
The volleyball setter receives the first ball after the reception and decides which player in the team will receive the next attack. She needs to quickly assess the situation on the court, taking into account the position of the attackers, the opponent’s defensive formation and the quality of the pass received.
As well as deciding to whom the ball is to be lifted, the setter is also responsible for defining the type of move to be made. This can include high balls for the winger to attack, fast balls for the center or even balls for the front row to play.
